Italy favourite to win eurovision song contest according to number of streams

May 9, 2024
Turin, May 10th 2022 – According to the number of streams on Spotify, Italy is the favourite to win the Eurovision Song Contest this week. With 80 million streams, the song Brividi by Mahmood & Blanco has been listened to the most out of all the Song Contest entries of this year. A striking difference compared to the 17 million streams of the number two, Sweden. This is evident from a research that online marketing agency Seeders conducted recently.

Mahmood enters the Eurovision Song Contest for the second time. In 2019 he was runner-up to Duncan Laurence, the winner of that year. Although he did not win, his song Soldi became a great hit in Italy and other countries. If Mahmood & Blanco were to win the Eurovision Song Contest this year, it would mean Italy’s second win in a row after winning the Contest in 2021. This would be a rare phenomenon in the history of the Eurovision Song Contest. Ireland is the exception in this; the country won three times in a row between 1992 and 1994.

Sweden and the Netherlands in top 3

With over 17 million streams, Sweden’s song Hold me by Cornelia Jakobs ranks a second place. In addition, The Netherlands ranks third according to streams on Spotify. Their song, De diepte by S10, has been streamed over 14 million times already. S10 is followed by Spain’s song SloMo by Chanel with around 10 million streams.

The bookmakers’ favourites

According to the bookmakers, Ukraine is the ultimate favourite to win the Eurovision Song Contest this year. However, rap group Kalush Orchestra’s song Stefania ranks a sixth place when it comes to the number of streams on Spotify. Italy and Sweden are also popular among the bookmakers, receiving a second and third place respectively in the bookmakers’ rankings. S10 is allocated a ninth place.
