This week in digital marketing, week 45, 2025

November 6, 2025
This week in digital marketing, AI and platform integrations are rewriting the rulebook. Google is making major moves, integrating “agentic” AI booking directly into Search Labs and enhancing Merchant Center with new video creative tools. Meanwhile, a landmark partnership could see Google’s AI power a massive Siri update, and a new user agent emerges for technical SEOs to track. From e-commerce to local search, the key theme is clear: AI-driven features are moving from experiment to core product, and marketers must adapt quickly.

Google merchant center adds "creative content" section

Google has introduced a new "Creative Content" section within Merchant Center. This update allows brands to upload and manage video assets (from sources like social channels, websites, or Product Studio) and map them directly to specific product listings.

These video assets will automatically sync with the Google Ads asset library for linked accounts, simplifying creative management across campaigns.

Why it matters: This is a significant update for e-commerce and PPC marketers. It bridges the gap between product data and creative assets, enabling richer, more engaging product listings in ads. The ability to add video directly to products can boost visibility, improve storytelling, and ultimately increase click-through and conversion rates.

What to do:

  • If you have access: Check your Merchant Center account (under Creative content → Video assets).

  • Start testing: Begin uploading relevant video assets (demos, unboxings, lifestyle shots) and map them to your top-performing products.

  • Monitor performance: Keep a close watch on how these new video-enhanced listings impact your ad performance and organic visibility.

Google's AI mode rolls out "agentic" booking in search labs

Google is rolling out advanced "agentic" AI capabilities to Search Labs users in the U.S. This update allows AI Mode to perform multi-site searches and find real-time availability for restaurant reservations, event tickets, and wellness appointments.

The AI will return a curated list of options, such as available time slots or ticket prices, with direct links to book on the provider's site. Restaurant bookings are available to all eligible Labs users, while event and wellness bookings are rolling out to Pro and Ultra subscribers.

Why it matters: This signals a major shift in the user journey, especially for local and service-based businesses. The AI is moving from just providing information to taking action. It reduces the friction for users, who no longer need to compare times and prices across multiple sites. For businesses, this means ranking on this curated list is the new, high-intent frontier.

What to do:

  • Check your booking platforms: Ensure your business's real-time availability is accurately syndicated to the booking platforms Google partners with.

  • Focus on structured data: While the AI works across sites, having clear, structured data for your services, times, and prices will be crucial for being understood and presented by the AI.

  • Monitor your funnels: Keep an eye on your analytics. You may start to see more direct, high-intent traffic landing on your final booking pages, bypassing traditional discovery and comparison pages on your site.

Apple plans major Siri overhaul using Google's Gemini AI

Apple is planning a major update to Siri, and it intends to use a custom version of Google’s powerful Gemini AI model to support it. According to reports, Apple will run the model on its own Private Cloud Compute servers to handle complex tasks like summarization and planning.

While Apple's own models will still handle some features, this partnership would leverage Google's 1.2 trillion parameter model—a massive leap from Apple's current systems. The deal is seen as a way for Apple to close the gap in the AI race while its own models continue to develop.

Why it matters: This is a massive industry development. A "smarter" Siri, powered by a leading AI model, could fundamentally change voice search and user interaction on all Apple devices. For marketers, this means voice search optimization could become relevant again, and users may rely more on Siri to summarize web content, find products, and complete tasks, changing how they discover brands.

What to do:

  • Watch this space: This is a long-term strategic development, not an immediate algorithm update. Keep it on your radar for 2026.

  • Re-evaluate content for summarization: As AI summarizers become the norm, ensure your content has clear, concise, and accurate information that an AI can easily digest and present as an answer.

  • Consider conversational context: Think about how users might ask Siri for information related to your business ("Hey Siri, plan me a weekend trip" or "Hey Siri, summarize the reviews for this product") and ensure your content can answer those complex, multi-step queries.

Google adds new "Google-CWS" user agent

Google has added a new user agent to its list of user-triggered fetchers: Google-CWS. This user agent is for the Chrome Web Store and is used when the fetcher requests URLs that developers provide in the metadata of their Chrome extensions and themes.

Because it is a "user-triggered" fetcher (like Google Site Verifier), this user agent will generally ignore robots.txt rules, as it is acting on a specific request from a user (in this case, a developer).

Why it matters: For technical SEOs and webmasters who meticulously analyze server logs, seeing a new or unrecognized user agent can be alarming. Knowing that Google-CWS is a legitimate, benign fetcher from Google related to the Chrome Web Store prevents false alarms and helps in accurately auditing crawl traffic.

What to do:

  • Inform your IT/Webmaster team: Make sure anyone analyzing logs is aware of this new user agent so it isn't mistaken for a malicious bot.

  • No action needed for robots.txt: Do not attempt to block this user agent; it is a legitimate Google service and will likely ignore the rule anyway.
